Why a Roof Leak Appears Away from the Opening
The hallway stain is easy to point to. The roof opening can be several feet away, and that distance changes how the repair is found.

The ceiling shows the end of the water path
Rain that gets beneath a shingle or flashing does not have to fall straight down. It can run along the underside of a roof layer, a fastener or framing until it finds a place to drip. The ceiling stain tells us where moisture appeared, not the dimensions of the roof failure.
That is why Guthrie Roofing Co starts a leak conversation with the symptom and then traces the roof-side path. You can tell us which room is affected and when you first noticed it. You do not need to climb onto the roof or identify the failed component.
A roof joint can admit water above the stain
Pipe boots, wall flashing, chimney connections and valleys interrupt an otherwise continuous covering. A split collar around a pipe leaves a path beside the pipe. A wall joint that does not shed water back onto the shingles can send it behind the covering instead.
The inspection connects those details to the indoor symptom. Where plumbing, wall entry or condensation can produce similar evidence, they need to be separated from a roof leak before a roofing repair is treated as the answer.
Opening the roof is part of reaching the failure
A visible gap can be small while the useful repair is larger. Enough covering may need to be removed to reach the failed flashing, tie new underlayment into existing layers and finish on sound material. That work is different from spreading sealant over the exposed joint.
The surrounding roof decides what the repair can connect to. Workable shingles, a compatible replacement and sound support allow a focused repair. Brittle covering or soft deck can expand the opening and change the plan.
A returning leak calls for a fresh look
A previous patch might have covered the symptom while leaving the water route open. A second failure can also be a separate issue in a roof with wider deterioration. Repeating the same patch without understanding the path does not resolve that choice.
If water is coming in now, stay away from wet electrical equipment and sagging ceilings. Call and describe the active leak. Temporary protection and permanent repair do different jobs; the lasting work follows the roof findings.

Tell Guthrie Roofing Co where water appears and what you noticed. A free roof inspection can help locate the entry path and establish the work that fits the condition.
